Every unit commissioned; first qualified pouch cells produced during on-site acceptance run
LA PLATA, Argentina — October 13, 2026
Xiamen TMAX Battery Equipments Limited ("TMAX"), a supplier of lithium-ion battery manufacturing equipment, today announced that its engineering team has completed on-site installation and commissioning of a complete pouch cell pilot line at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata (UNLP), one of Latin America's most prominent public research universities in lithium battery technology. All equipment has been successfully commissioned, and the line has produced pouch cells meeting the agreed acceptance criteria. The successful completion of this project marks another full-cycle delivery by TMAX outside China — from equipment manufacturing and export, through site installation and process commissioning, to qualified cells coming off the line — and further strengthens the company's track record with university and research-institute customers worldwide.
A pilot line covering the core process chain
UNLP is one of Argentina's largest and most research-intensive public universities and a leading base for lithium-ion battery R&D in Latin America. The university has built deep expertise in battery materials, electrochemistry and cell engineering over several decades, and hosts national-level technology development programmes aimed at adding value to Argentina's lithium resources. The TMAX pouch cell pilot line supplied to UNLP is designed for research institutions and small-batch pilot production.
It covers the key stages of lithium-ion pouch cell manufacturing:
Electrode preparation
1. Mixing / slurry preparation
2. Coating
3. Calendering (rolling press)
4. Electrode drying
Cell assembly
5. Die-cutting
6. Stacking
7. Tab welding
8. Pouch (aluminium laminate film) forming
9. Top and side sealing
10. Electrolyte filling and vacuum sealing
Formation and grading
12. Capacity grading
13. OCV / IR measurement and cell sorting
Across every station, the line has been engineered for process flexibility, wide parameter windows and robust safety margins, allowing validation of multiple material systems and pouch cell formats. This directly supports the university's priorities: new material validation, rapid process iteration and hands-on training of cell engineers.
